- Music: LIVING ON A PRAYER
I've been mulling over the idea of taking the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Board of Registry exam to get MT certification (Medical Technologist) for quite some time now and it looks like a possibility now. Of course, I would need to consider several factors before deciding on going for the exam or not. Firstly, I'm already a Certified MT (Medical Technologist) by the AMT (American Medical Technologists) so taking the MT, ASCPi exam means yet another Certification, and yes, another certification with yearly dues for me to contend with, ha ha ha. Secondly, the ASCPi costs $200. Thirdly, I would need to fly to Cebu, Manila, or even Hong Kong for the exam since it's not given here in Davao City where I am based. Hmmmm, it involves a lot of money. Money I still don't know where to find, ha ha ha.
What's so important about the ASCPi certification? Well, it works like a license for a professional Medical Technologist to practice the profession in the USA. Being certified by the ASCP reflects a Medical Technologist's skills, competence, and commitment to the Medical Lab Profession. I've been told that there are simply more opportunities for ASCP-certified professionals. It figures, since the ASCP has always been known for its high standards/excellence in the certification of Laboratory Professionals. This being so, I just know that their Certifying Examination would be difficult and won't be a breeze in the park for me. Gee, I've heard those who've already taken the exam say that the ASCP exam is "ten times more difficult than the AMT exam". Yikes!
But, if it's worth it, why not? Besides, if I pass, then, it'll give a boost to my credentials even more. Never mind if it means I have one more license/certification to renew (expensive, of course) in addition to the 2 I already have. Arrgh! When will these licensure/certifying exams ever end? LOL.
Oh well, if I'm to take the ASCP exam, then I better start preparing for it. This means, of course, that very soon, my head will be filled mostly with bacteria, viruses, parasites, and other microorganisms for a few months. It only means I'd be glued to reading and filling my mind with information/studies on microorganisms. So, I hope I didn't scare you.
But, really, I'm just trying not to let the exam scare the wits out of me, LOL.
